“Let life happen to you. Believe me: life is in the right, always.” –Rilke
Rebirth sounds like such a hopeful, wonderful experience in theory — and we are passing through the season for it, after all — but rebirth can also be excruciating. It’s one of those things that you look back on and feel glad it happened, but while it’s happening, it’s a challenge to appreciate the moment and go with the flow. In spite of that, I actively trying to go with the flow.
Even though we’re coming to the end of a school year, I’m still doing a fair amount of teaching and, of course, coordinating youth summer theater programs. I’m also reading a lot of scripts, collaborating with a handful of fellow teaching artists, enjoying time with loved ones and looking forward to attending the Broadway Teacher’s Workshop in July. Once a week I do yoga and Pilates and, lately, I’ve been seeing live theater every weekend! There’s so many exciting performances happening in Rhode Island right now and I’m grateful for some down time during which I can support my theatre friends and colleagues.
I’m confident there is another acting project in my future…however, in light of the very personal catharsis at my feet, I appreciate the opportunity to slow down and look inward.
